Harishchandragad trek is one of the most challenging and mesmerizing treks in the western ghats of Maharashtra. It is a hill fort in the Ahmednagar district situated in the Malshej Ghat having an altitude of 4,670 ft. It also has temples said to be carved out in the 11th century.

Many people are confused as to whether they should go from Thane or Kalyan to reach the fort but the easiest way with an amazing view is from Kalyan. Again there are many buses available for the same route but take the ones that go to Khireshwar.

Harishchandragad trek starts from the base village and these villages have many restaurants where you get full meals and water. From the base it would take approx. 5 to 6 hrs to reach the temples.

There's a big Shiva Linga in one of the temples which is completely surrounded by water in a cave-like arrangement. It’s height from the base is five feet, and the water is waist-deep. It is quite difficult to reach the Shiva Linga because the water is always cold.

After that you would witness stalls for tea, lemonade etc. frequently..
It takes about 2 hrs more to reach the summit i.e. Konkan Kada.

So you should start your trek around 10 from the base and for that you should reach Kalyan at least by 8, then you may reach in the evening to watch the amazing sunset from the top!

On our trek we also met some night trekkers! They started their trek in the evening and reached up there in the morning to see the sunrise from the KONKAN KADA!

If you are comfortable with a night trek then could do this too..
But most people prefer to start in the day and do camping for night..
As there are all the facilities available like camping tents..
Amazing dinner menus.. Etc.

And then the beautiful sunrise awaits..
If you are not an experienced trekker then I would advise you to avoid trekking here during monsoon because the rocks are really steep at some points.
